Westside Academy Faculty: Abby Frascht
Dance Experience & Professional Background
Abby is the proud owner of Westside Dance Academy, the very place where her own love of dance began at just 2½ years old. Growing up at WDA, she spent countless joyful hours performing in recitals, competing at dance competitions, and building lifelong friendships and memories. Her passion for performance expanded through productions such as The Nutcracker and Dracula, as well as through show choir. Abby went on to dance as a member of both the Waukee Varsity Dance Team and the University of Iowa Dance Team, dedicating four years to each.
Beyond performing, Abby has poured her heart into teaching and mentoring dancers. She previously served as the dance team coach at Iowa City West, choreographed for Van Meter Show Choir for several years, and spent over a decade as a dance counselor at the Show Choir Camp of Central Iowa. With more than 15 years of teaching experience at WDA, she has shared her passion across many styles, including lyrical, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, ballet, pointe, tap, and pom.
Abby’s teaching philosophy reaches far beyond technique. She is passionate about helping dancers grow in confidence, creativity, and community, while also instilling lifelong values such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
In 2023, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming the owner of WDA, excited to continue the legacy of guiding dancers through their own journeys. For Abby, the greatest joy comes from celebrating students’ growth—whether it’s mastering a new skill, achieving a goal, or simply finding joy in dance.
She would love to welcome your dancer into the WDA family, where passion, friendship, and artistry come together.

Dance Classes For Ages 5 to 10 Years
Dance becomes even more exciting at ages 5–10! At Westside Dance Academy, we guide students through the next stage of their journey with classes that strengthen technique, build confidence, and spark creativity. Whether your child is exploring ballet, jazz, tap, or hip hop, they’ll find the perfect class to grow their skills while having fun in a supportive environment.
Please note: Age ranges are provided as general starting points. Class placement may vary based on each child’s experience, ability, and development, and placement may require instructor approval to ensure the best fit for every dancer.

Creative Movement
Age: 3
Class Length: 1/2 hour
Creative Movement is a ballet/creative movement class. We start with stretching together, move to the center of the room and stand in lines to learn basic ballet steps, go across the floor with movements that develop large motor skills, and end the class with creative activities.
Dress Code—Girls: Pink leotard and tights; pink Capezio leather ballet shoes
Dress Code—Boys: Ballet dress code is white shirt, black shorts/pants, and black ballet shoes.

Availability: Dancers must be able to perform any day Thursday–Sunday during competitions. Exact schedules are typically released the week prior. Competitions for the season are selected in the fall, with dates and locations posted.
Requirements: Participation requires attendance in summer classes and audition camp.
Competition Fees:
- Solo/duo/trio routines: ~$95–$125 per routine per competition
- Group routines: ~$50–$60 per person per routine per competition
- Additional $5 administrative fee per entry
- Late payments: $20 per routine if past due
- All fees must be paid at least 2 weeks prior to the competition
Number of Competitions: 4 regional competitions and 1 national competition
Costumes:
Up to $250 per costume, payment due in full by November
Costume fees communicated in September
Notes: Fees are approximate and may vary depending on the routine.
